MY TRIBUTE TO EL FRONTON – video

OBSESSION, EL FRONTON

Every morning, when I wake up I see by my window El Fronton, my neighbourg, at the bottom of the seascape.
I take the binoculars to see how the wave behave.
This incredible wave is one of the most dangerous spot in the World.
Some people would say it is my Obsession… I would probably agree.
But, it is a sane obsession that makes me stronger and aware,
that makes me 
realise the beauty of Mother nature.

PREPARING MY BODY & MIND

If I want to be able to ride this wave at my best level, I must be at the best physical and mental level.
For this, I need a severe discipline. By having the most healthiest routine, I stay alert to watch the beast’s awakening.
Enjoy this awesome clip that mixes amazing footages of riding and discover my daily training.
You can see that I am not exhausted in training. I am regular, competitive and I progress day after day.
Every time I ride these majestic and powerfull waves,
I realize how lucky I am to be here,
I celebrate the beauty of the ocean.
All my body and my senses are awakened.

STRETCHING & FITNESS

MY ROUTINE WITH STRETCHING POSES

You want to feel in a good shape and to improve your flexibility ?
A few daily stretches help to gain flexibility and strength.
Here are some easy-to-achieve positions and the benefits they provide.

Breathing and concentration are the keys to progress, in my opinion.

TRIANGLE
Utthita Trikoâsana
  • Strengthens the thighs, knees and ankles
  • Stretching groins, hamstrings, calves
  • Open chest and shoulders
  • Facilitates digestion
WARRIOR II
Virabhadrâsana
  • Strengthens arms and shoulders muscles
  • Opens your chest and lungs
  • Trains the abdominal muscles
  • Stretches hips and thighs
  • Works on legs, ankles and feet
UPWARD FACING DOG POSE
Urdhva Mukha Svanâsana
  • Stretches the lumbar area
  • Tones legs and glutes
  • Stimulates the abdominal strap and abdominal organs
  • Strengthens wrists, arms and back
  • Stretches shoulders, chest and stomach.
DORSAL STERTCHING BY ANGLING
  • Stretches dorsal and shoulders
  • Stretches ischios
  • Strengthens lower back
  • Opens chest and shoulder
CRESCENT MOON
Anjaneyâsana
  • Indeed, it serves as a very good stretch for the thighs, shoulders, rib cage and even the neck.
  • Strengthens of the abdominal belt
  • Relieves and relaxes the lumbar
  • Stretches the psoas and hip flexors
SCORPION
Vrischikâsana
  • It is made to gain strength and flexibility.
  • This position targets the back, hips, abdomen and legs and is very effective in firming the body.
  • Very good way to strengthen the back and torso
  • Strengthens arms and shoulders.
  • Helps to have a better balance
    My advice :

    Vrischikasana requires a good balance, much more than strength in the arms and shoulders.
    Scorpion is above all a game of checks and balances.
    When you are in the right position, the effort seems to almost disappear.
    This is one of the most difficult asanas to master and it should be attempted only by advanced yoga students…

IN MEMORIAM

I WANT TO EDIT THIS VIDEO AS A TRIBUTE TO SANTIAGO CRUZ LUIS.

I am just on the way for a nice free bodyboarding session, with my friend Rafa Medina.
After walking pretty much two hours down the hill, we finally arrive closer to THIS secret wave.
This moment has been in my mind for a long time. It took me a long time to share this terrible  happening with you.
This day will be remembered as a dark one in the Canarian bodyboarding history.

SOMETHING WRONG

As we are  getting closer to the spot, Rafa and I can see a boat in the channel and we firstly think there is someone fishing overthere.
As we arrive at the location, there is no one out, no boat and we imagine it is too dry to surf.

Anyway, I decide to go in the water and while I am getting changed, a girl comes to me saying that I should take care as it is super dry. She tells me that a rider touched the reef just before we arrive.
I go into the water and realise that it is actually extremely shallow so the ride may be impossible or really dangerous.

SOMETHING DRAMATIC

I am surfing for about one hour by myself and as the tide is getting higher more riders arrive as Rafa and few other local guys. Then a man shows up in the line up saying that the rider that has touched the reef few hours before has died from his injury. We are all shocked but we still do not know who is this rider.

When I go back on the beach, later in the afternoon I have like 20 « missed calls » on my phone as people knew I was around.
I finally find out that the rider is Santi, a great bodyboarder from Tenerife. I cannot not believe it.

I remember the sensations I had when I was surfing alone,  I was thinking by myself that things happen so fast when Life has decided it is your time to go…

Always in our heart. Ride in peace Santiago Cruz Luis.

MOTIVATION – Today is The Day

KEEP YOUR GOAL & TRAIN HARD
During my last trip in Australia in 2016, I spent long moments alone and I decided to train in any conditions.
Tyge Landa is an excellent film editor and he filmed my training in full nature with a brand new camera with a slow motion system…
Just don’t only ride waves but push your body to the limits. Bodyboarding is much more than riding, its a lifestyle, an art and a motivation to wake up every morning with the will to go further, harder and stronger.

2015- My daily routine during my trip in Australia

A resourcing trip in Oz

Australia, NSW – May 2015

In May as the winter swell is coming in South hemisphere, I leave my training residence in Gran Canaria to fly to Sydney.  I am traveling in solo, for one month in the middle of Mother Nature in New South Wales. No car, just my feet and nice drivers picking up around there.
I enjoy a mix of opportunities to ride many secret spots and the warm welcome by Glen Thurston and his family.

I begin a good job with Agent eighteen signing my new contract for wetsuits.
I appreciate the very good conditions for training, physical and mental balance, with endless surf sessions in the middle of nowhere. I should say in the middle of hidden paradises… with top leveled riders full of daring and talent.
So long Aussies, I will soon be back. Thank you for all the positive energy and spirit you give to me ever.
I am sure that you will inspire me on the new 2015 World tour.
